Hello All,

I am still a bit new to Openindiana & SmartOS but want to try and compile a
"login greeter" for SmartOS as I am experimenting with putting an X-Server
on it with Openindiana as my guide.

The greeter, that I want to try is a simple one with minimal dependencies
called "slim" (https://github.com/iwamatsu/slim) and (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SLiM) but I think that I need to setup an
Openindiana development environment, perhaps under VirtualBox as I am
currently running Ubuntu 18.04 and wanted to ask the group about the best
way to proceed.

Someone mentioned the possibility of using LXDM-GTK-Greeter but from what I
can see, that has a lot of libraries and dependencies that need to be
installed and the point of this exercise is to try and keep the footprint
as small as possible which is why I was looking for something extremely
small like "slim".

I have not yet made the complete plunge into Illumos based systems for
daily use, but am getting closer to that point each day so I am hoping to
make a little progress with this step forward.

Now the exercise is to see if I can get it to compile and run

Any information or guidance would be very helpful.

Best Regards,

Lonnie T. Cumberland, PhD.
