hi all,

After last OI update

:; uname -rosv
SunOS 5.11 illumos-3ee4fc2aa6 illumos

I am unable to listen to audio:
a) not quiet true fro VLC, somehow it plays it - but no volume control is possible
b) totem is silent
c) FF show error from attachment (when visited https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/08/unix-at-50-it-starts-with-a-mainframe-a-gator-and-three-dedicated-researchers/)

Funny thing is: process is there and syslog shows:
[2019-08-30 13:46:38] solarix pulseaudio[2242]: [ID 295310 user.error] [oss] module-oss.c: pa_read() failed: Resource temporarily unavailable

Tried to kill pulseaudio and start it again (from session) - it died with: [2019-08-30 16:03:37] solarix pulseaudio[29901]: [ID 295310 user.error] [solaris] sink.c: Assertion '!pa_thread_mq_get()' failed at pulsecore/sink.c:2288, function pa_sink_set_mute(). Aborting.

Any ideas?

With best regards.

Predrag, can you identify the last working version?
Probably one BEFORE this change (although I am not sure how that can influence it): https://hipster.openindiana.org/jenkins/job/oi-userland/4811/changes

I made another update this morning, and noticed few more problems:

a) mate terminal dumps core (I might provide core file, if you are interested, 89 MB) b) prompting for ssh key password (probably gnome-keyring-daemon) stopped to work - was working... c) pulseaudio did not died (?) - but changing volume via volume applet makes no difference when VLC reproduces audio (mp3 and streams); totem works OK (and reacts on volume applet changes) - seems like pulseaudio picks up random audio output (in this case it takes HMDI on - audiotest utility shows that). I have to find out how to set default device again...
NOTE: this might be related to replacement I did: took NVIDIA driver 396.24 from https://wiki.openindiana.org/oi/Nvidia+Graphics - which might lead to re-numbering audio devices:
:; ls -al /dev/sound/audiohd:*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 52 Jan 8 2016 /dev/sound/audiohd:0 -> ../../devices/pci@0,0/pci1849,5892@1f,3:sound,audio0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 55 Jan 8 2016 /dev/sound/audiohd:0ctl -> ../../devices/pci@0,0/pci1849,5892@1f,3:sound,audioctl0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 50 Jan 8 2016 /dev/sound/audiohd:0dsp -> ../../devices/pci@0,0/pci1849,5892@1f,3:sound,dsp0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 52 Jan 8 2016 /dev/sound/audiohd:0mixer -> ../../devices/pci@0,0/pci1849,5892@1f,3:sound,mixer0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 66 Jul 12 08:48 /dev/sound/audiohd:1 -> ../../devices/pci@0,0/pci8086,1901@1/pci10de,1287@0,1:sound,audio1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 69 Jul 12 08:48 /dev/sound/audiohd:1ctl -> ../../devices/pci@0,0/pci8086,1901@1/pci10de,1287@0,1:sound,audioctl1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 64 Jul 12 08:48 /dev/sound/audiohd:1dsp -> ../../devices/pci@0,0/pci8086,1901@1/pci10de,1287@0,1:sound,dsp1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 66 Jul 12 08:48 /dev/sound/audiohd:1mixer -> ../../devices/pci@0,0/pci8086,1901@1/pci10de,1287@0,1:sound,mixer1

d) terminator profiles are not read anymore (I was opening 2 windows, split second one horizontally and open commands in each of them - now second window just exists)

I don't see us merged anything related to audio recently.
See above

Have a look to ~/.xsession-errors as well. truss of the running pulseaudio process might help too.

Michal
Thanks for suggestions

With best regards.
