Along that particular note, would it be worthwhile to invest monetarily in OmniOS (since illumos distros-if you will (I hate the term)-CDDL copyleft license) contribute back to the illumos source code? Especially while we are figuring things out? My problem is that the bulk of the coding I know how to do is the scripting focused Python/Lua/Ruby and I am not exactly sure how well that would work within the OpenIndiana ecosystem.

In the Maintainer call the founding of a Foundation/ or Rather Association has been discussed quite a bit. And it's in fact a process that was started once but not with a high priority. Thus far getting in Volunteers has been a higher priority rather than Organising cash or governance. I get the benefits of a Foundation and a central spot to look at in Governance, but thus far we are one core developer (Andreas Wacknitz) and supporting maintainers. I love the initiative and Engagement that people bring here. And it's needed. But we don't need an official Signoff space yet. If people are willing to invest into development, we are not holding you guys back.
