If your system supports IPMI, it should report an IPMI Device
Information section via 'dmidecode'. This will also indicate which
Interface Type any IPMI BMC supports.

The NSC PC8741x chip is usually used for SuperIO (diskette, serial,
keyboard).
There is an NSC PC87431 mini-BMC chip that supports IPMI via SSIF/SMBus.

However, HP would have the definitive word on what management interfaces
the Proliant supports.

Subject: [Openipmi-developer] various questions about IPMI

Hello

I post to this mailing list because i want some information that i can't
find anywhere about IPMI.
I have discover IPMI recently in my try to know each linux options.
When i saw on a site that IPMI permit to use:
-The "ID" button, and blue LED
-All of the hardware sensors on the motherboard via its i2c bus
(this is why these boards show up no sensors with the normal
lm_sensors drivers, whilst similar non-IPMI boards do)

This is that i have on my HP proliant, no sensors and a unknown blue LED
button.
So i investigate more and i discover that Proliant machines are not very
IPMI friendly and that the only way for me to use that is to use the HP
cpqhealth "driver".

So my questions are:

1 The information that HP Proliant doesn't work with openIPMI is it
still true?
On mine that doesn't work but it's possibly because i made bad test.
If not, do you think it is possible that this type of machine works in
future? (in this case i am ready to help).

2 How to know the presence of an IPMI interface ? Like some ipmi-detect
tools

3 With sensors-detect i found an PC8741x sensor with no "monitoring
capabilities".
But in the datasheets of this chips it speaks about it can do BMC
interfaces.
Is this a IPMI chip? I'm certainly wrong but i prefer to be sure.

thanks in advance for any reponces.
