regarding Issue #3266 (http://trac.osgeo.org/openlayers/ticket/3266)
i've opened a pull request
(https://github.com/openlayers/openlayers/pull/411) on github with a
patch to resolve it.
The user can now add a boolean style attribute: cacheExternalGraphic
to enable memory image caching for the canvas renderer.
It would be nice if someone can review the patch.
