It makes the application more complex, but I really wonder if you
shouldnt rethink this as an WMS/WFS system.
DONT supply the pipelines as vector by default, use a WMS server
instead. When you need the interactive component, fetch the GML as
needed with WFS query. You get the best of both worlds.
