the rtmp or rtmpt protocol is only used for transfering Data and Audio and Video Data. Of course you cannot access the application via your browser at 8088 cause there is no web-server at 8088.
Once again: OpenMeetings does first try to connect to rtmp if that fails it tries rtmpt (3 times).
