I think I tried that. I thought it could have been something related to crypt, so I kind of broke my install. What is the correct crypt parameter setting to use, i think the classes have been renamed.
Once I get my openmeeting up again I'll let you know how it works. What's annoying was after 2 days of it not working, I thought increasing java's memory on the server solved the exact same bug, only to have it resurface.
