In general this procedure is ok, however please make sure that a) the diff applies against svn trunk with patch -p1. b) the diff has been generated using diff -Nurd. c) the description of what the patch does is complete.
If you are working against svn, I recommend just doing svn diff instead of manually calling diff. I have not been able to apply any of the patches we got from you guys yet, all fail in one or the other file -- please recheck and resubmit.
