James, thanks for catching this; with all the hustle and bustle around the 1.8.0 release, I haven't had time to keep up with the mailing lists, so I didn't know about this issue until I encountered it first-hand last night. I've fixed the problem for the 1.8.1 release and created a bug record for it:
http://bugzilla.opennms.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3861 There's an updated version of a single JSP file attached in the bug tracker. You can copy this file into the right location on your system and it will fix the problem with no compiled code changes, no restarts, no logging out and back in -- just refresh the front page and you'll be set.
