I personally would find a fixed list of asset fields very limiting. For instance, this schema might work well for small-medium sized servers, but would fail utterly when it came to tracking modular network equipment like Cisco Catalyst 6500s or 3750 stacks, or blade server enclosures. I'd rather see something like the model that netdot uses, which everything is a module which has attributes like serial/asset number etc and can be a container for other modules.
