Hello everyone, Right now, I'm aware of two efforts going on in the "master" branch that will involve major code changes in the UI code and I want to try and coordinate the changes so that we are able to successfully merge the changes. One is the conversion of some of the servlet code over to use Spring MVC annotation-based controllers with Hibernate and the other is internationalization (i18n).
As far as I'm aware, the Spring MVC changes are going straight into the master branch which will eventually be released as 1.11 (unstable) and 1.12 (stable). I think putting major changes like this directly into master incrementally as the work is completed is a good strategy. Otherwise, if the work was completed in a branch and then merged as one giant commit, it would make it very difficult for other people working in master to merge other UI changes. Similarly, I think that it will be a good idea to make any i18n changes in master as well, incrementally as the work is completed. This will allow people to see how the i18n will work before it is implemented across the UI so that we can get developer feedback. i18n is a great feature but because it does introduce development overhead, we need to make sure that the implementation is easy to live with so that it doesn't unnecessarily slow down future UI development. That is why early developer feedback is important. If you are involved in these projects or other UI work in the master branch, please communicate on this devel list as you work so that everyone stays aware of changes that may go into the UI. Thanks! Let's make sure all of this stuff makes it into 1.11/1.12 smoothly because it will be great to have these new features! :) Seth Leger The OpenNMS Group ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get a FREE DOWNLOAD! and learn more about uberSVN rich system, user administration capabilities and model configuration.
