Andreas,
I agree that 2 & 3 for normal operation but what do the negative arguments do?
I can specify -3, -2 and -1 but they are not documented. Below is the error
message printed if the debug level argument is outside of the range:
> debug_level 4
level must be between -3 and 3
Here is what I found in src/helper/log.h:
* -3 = LOG_LVL_SILENT - turn off all output. In lieu of try + catch this can be
used as a
* feeble ersatz.
* -1 = LOG_LVL_USER - user messages. Could be anything from information
* to progress messags. These messages do not represent
* incorrect or unexpected behaviour, just normal execution.
* 0 = LOG_LVL_ERROR - fatal errors, that are likely to cause program abort
* 1 = LOG_LVL_WARNING - non-fatal errors, that may be resolved later
* 2 = LOG_LVL_INFO - state information, etc.
* 3 = LOG_LVL_DEBUG - debug statements, execution trace
Maybe help/manual should be updated to include this information.

Where can I find a full description of the debug_level range? If you entry a
range outside of the valid range, the error message indicates that debug_level
can be set between -3 and 3. Help only shows 0 thru 3.
I'd guess the manual covers it. Otherwise, the range is 0 to 3, inclusive. You
probably only want to use 3 for debug and 2 for normal operation.
