Thank you very much for your reply. 
One of the config files indeed had a hidden 'init' somewhere. Removing that 
fixed the error. 

Now it's replaced with another error. 
I'll first try to fix this one myself - I'll call for help if all options don't 
work.

That depends on what the config files are doing. Not all of the sourced files 
are in our tree so I have no way of telling if any of them contains a hidden 
'init'. Obviously something is doing init since the JTAG chain is probed before 
the gdb_port command is evaluated.
