Since no one has responded yet, I think it would be safe to apply this. 
The expectation will be that anyone that finds a problem will promptly
report it, and the patch can be reverted.

I think the past 24 hours demonstrates that this is a _very_ effective
means of getting feedback.  Further, this and earlier postings moot all
future claims regarding insufficient notice.
