I have currently no Solaris 9 around, only 8 and 10. I'll try to
reproduce the problem there.
Are you using gcc::with_binutils=yes ? Look at the output of
rpm -q --provides gcc


I use gcc without changes from openpkg :

gcc::with_cxx = yes
gcc::with_objc = no
gcc::with_java = no
gcc::with_f77 = no
gcc::with_optimize = yes
gcc::with_profile = no
gcc::with_binutils = yes
gcc::with_threads = yes
gcc::with_ssp = no
gcc::with_gcc = no
gcc = 3.4.3-2.3.0
