Folks!

Please be aware that you have influence on the choice of platforms being
supported by forthcoming OpenPKG releases. Registering an instance with
the OpenPKG Registry acts much like casting a vote for the underlying
CPU architecture and operating system. Don't miss that opportunity!

DETAILS

In the early years of OpenPKG the choice of which platforms are to be
supported was driven by the requirements of the single orginal Project
sponsor. In addition, if time and resources permitted, additional
platforms were added by means of the project architect's favorite pick
and the personal preferences of the release engineers.

In the year 2005 sponsorship as it existed previously vanished. So did
the rating of the sponsor's requirements. Before the end of that year
both numbers reached zero. Simultaenously the OpenPKG Foundation e.V.
was established and one of it's responsibilities since then is to
operate the buildfarm being used to create a release. Obviously the
Foundation gained sizably control over platform choice.

By the end of the year 2005 the OpenPKG Registry was established as a
quick and dirty hack to forcibly demand feedback from the community and
to explore the scope of the outer OpenPKG world. The authors knew very
well the crude proceeding wouldn't be loved by the community but
previous attempts to get voluntary feedback failed both in data quality
and quantity.

All objectors and doubters please take note that the implementors of the
Registry believe that this apparatus finally pays off for the whole
community. The data collected is used as input for critical decisions
regarding the future of OpenPKG. Hiding or faking data will eventually
hurt the community. Please support the project and provide meaningful
and complete information. This time you de-facto vote for your platform.
Expect future analyses will be performed to further drive the project.

Thank you!
