Thanks, I have tried these and I have posted my error message below. I am a
registered user, and I am currently downloading openpkg via ftp without
problem. I am issuing these command under OSX.

RSYNC_PASSWORD="" rsync rsync://[EMAIL PROTECTED]@
rsync.openpkg.org/openpkg-ftp/
rsync: getaddrinfo: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 873: No address associated
with nodename
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at /SourceCache/rsync/rsync-24.1
/rsync/clientserver.c(94)

using %40 instead of @ for username I receive the following message:

RSYNC_PASSWORD="" rsync
rsync://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/openpkg-ftp/
@ERROR: auth failed on module openpkg-ftp
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [receiver]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at
/SourceCache/rsync/rsync-24.1/rsync/io.c(359)

supplying a password yields the same error message.

You need to be a registered OpenPKG user. See
http://registry.openpkg.org/faq:

Q: What is the correct username for RSYNC?
A: Use the fellow E-Mail address. RSYNC supports multiple "@" in the
URL. See example below.

Q: Can you give an example RSYNC access?
A: RSYNC_PASSWORD="" rsync
rsync://[EMAIL PROTECTED]@rsync.openpkg.org/openpkg-ftp/
