Same command I've run on 50+ AIX 5.x systems. It seems like a fairly
robust system with very few processes running. Normally I'll install
this over NFS but I get the same hang installing from /tmp.

FIXED. The machine had a PATH entry set to a non-existent DFS cell and
it was hanging.
