I think we cannot simply expand mbcsv to multiple standbys as it is. The
problem lies in how to deal with failures: what to do if one of the standby
nodes is very slow or doesn't reply at all. How to handle the case when the
active fails at a point when only a subset of the standbys have received the
latest state update. Etc. There are ready-made solutions for this sort of
problem: consensus algorithms like Paxos, RAFT and EVS. The problem is hard, so
we shouldn't try to invent something on our own here, but rather go for a
proven algorithm.

** [tickets:#1170] Support for multiple standby controllers elected to run in
different availability zones**

**Status:** assigned
**Milestone:** 5.0

The ticket is to track/enable support for multiple hot standby controllers that
would be running(by configuration or election) on different 'availability
zones'(for eg:- 5 of them) in cloud deployments.

To be able to support multiple usecases around enhanced cluster management and
cloud deployments that might require to be able to handle double faults on
controller nodes.

- First and foremost would be to check (and or prototype) the status of MBCSv
to synchup with multiple standbys. (it should work by default!)

- clustering changes

- packaging changes, ... more.

This is a place holder ticket
