some legal body was on my wishlist for some time already,
it would allow us to accept (tax deductible) donations and
might be good to have if we ever run into legal problems.

but setting up some legal body (for example german "verein")
and getting the irs status for non profit organisation would
have been a lot of work etc.

now enter the software freedom law center and their latest
project: conservancy. they are setting up one legal entity
and doing all the paper work, and any number of projects can
get under their hood, thus get all the benefits, but with no
or little work and still keep full control of the actual software
project.

I think this is a very cool idea, and I asked for more details.
please have a look at
        http://conservancy.softwarefreedom.org/

and let me know what you think about it.

a technical question: who can decide if opensc should become
a legal entity ? Over the time a lot of people have contributed
code to opensc and it's not really practical to ask everyone
who has been involved in this project ...

Cheers,
Nils
