it is an ugly hack - lets ignore the locking, and hope two apps won't try to use the card at the same time. the problem is that firefox, mozilla, thunderbird all lock the card when they start up and then keep it locked, whether they use it or not. if you have a screensaver, and it wants to use the card too you run into some problem :( but again I might be wrong...
