I believe this is the best list to ask anything about open source crypto 
hardware (smart card) related software questions.

The way forward is a minidriver. It does not require signing by MS (like CSP-s 
do) and it is a more direct mapping upon PKCS#15 like structures in libopensc.
While the architecture has some glitches and limitations, it is the only 
logical step for smart cards. I don't know about the status of any 
PKCS#11-CSPs, IMHO they are mostly dead.
At least a PKCS#11 based CSP can't provide the same integration features like a 
minidriver (the two world views don't match that well)

Both linked pages are unfortunately morally outdated and obsolete (look for 
tags in lower right corner)

SCB is obsolete because there's a native Windows installer these days and 
applications (like Putty) can use PKCS#11.

Expect an e-mail about the state of nightly builds [2], upcoming 0.12.1 release 
(candidates) [3] and Windows MSI installers for x86/64 [4] in the nearest 
future.
