Hi Gerrit,

unfortunately dsp7 just creates the old VC6 dsp files, in order to get
.NET vcproj files I just open the .NET gui and import the old VC6
project and export the new files, which is not really made for batch
processing like the dailybuilds. I slightly remember there was a
possibility to do these kind of thing from a program without the need
for the gui, I'll see if I can find it again. But anyway wasn't creating
.NET stuff one major argument for using SCons ??. What's the status
of this stuff ??.
Since I'm not working directly on OpenSG at the moment, I haven't had the cycles
to bring the OpenSG SCons build back up to date. I believe I'll be able to
justify time to work on that in a few weeks. At Dirk's request, I did manage to
play around with SCons' MSVSProject generation functionality. The way it works
is it generates a Makefile project that calls SCons as the build action. The
list of files in the project isn't authoritative, as that list is generated from
within the SCons build itself. This means the user needs to have Python and
SCons installed. However, SCons provides an scons-local package that you can
check directly into your source tree. That reduces the dependency list to
simply Python.
IIRC, there has been some effort towards generating project files that don't
depend on SCons and Python. I'm not sure about their progress.
As an intermediate solution we also can switch back to just provide
the .dsw and .dsp files and those who want to can convert the files
themselves (most likely this is much more convenient than to try to
get out of date .NET files running). The other thing is the installation
problem as I still haven't thought about how to do this from within .NET
I agree, VC6 project files are generally fine, no matter what version of VC7+
you have.
Cheers,
Chad
