Hi,

you can try to set the variable “__GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK” to a

non-zero value that should force the nvidia driver to swap the buffers

while the vertical retrace takes place. Might help. But as long as

that happens only when you move the window, I think this

could be a “normal” behaviour ( it might also depend on the window

manager you’re using).

Regards,

  Toni

Subject: [Opensg-users] flicker despite available double buffer

Dear all,

my todays e-mail is not specific for OpenSG but I am confident that somebody is on this list who can help me.

I installed Linux on my workstation, downloaded the OpenSG sources and compiled them. When I move the glut-window or run the tutorial "02move" I get a strange flickering. It looks like the image is sometimes generated in bands which are shifted against each other. I find it very hard to describe, so I attached a small image.

Does somebody have an idea what this is? Help would be appreciated. Thank you very much!

Setup: HP xw9300 with 2x NVidia Quadro FX4500, Scientific Linux (kind of RedHat) with Xorg. The graphics driver is new from NVidias homepage. I have one screen 1600x1200 per graphics board.

Kind regards,

Bjoern Zehner
