I have just finished merging the Occlusion Culling and ScreenLOD work from the RenderTraversal branch back into 2.0 trunk.  The occlusion culling works quite well for really large models with lots of geometry nodes.  The ScreenLOD is meant to be an automatic LOD node in which users just stuff LODs into it and the node itself will figure out which LOD to use.  More information about each of these and their use can be found at: http://opensg.vrsource.org/trac/wiki/Doc/DevGuideFull
