(1) to be sure, i did a fresh checkout today. strange, i only have one file in 
the mentioned directory and it is too small, i guess...

(2) i also noticed that scons fails even earlier with scons -j4 (on a dual 
dual-core opteron), i get a lot of these:

i will open a ticket, if unrelated to the xml problem...
