I think someone else had similar problems with the OpenEXR libs a
while ago and the solution was either to disable them or compile your
own in debug mode because the prebuilt libs in the distribution didn't
work for some reason. I really don't remember the details, but it
should be possible to find the discussion in the archive (the trac
page should have a pointer to that).
