yeah, some here do ;) "flickering" is the word you are probably looking for.

do you even need the rotation for head tracking ?

have you looked at the rotation matrix at the instant when you notice
the flickering? does it deviate from the matrices you see before/after?
perhaps in one case the rotation is described as (x,y,z, alpha) and in
the other case as (-x,-y,-z,-alpha) ?
