You don't have the good version of ffmpeg installed but his fok libav not compiled with some propriataries codecs like h264, mp3, acc,.... Use this FAQ for resolve your issue : https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+faq/1040 VLC got his own codecs, Gnome Player use GStreamer (a multimdia framework) which install too this codecs. OS use ffmpeg which not include by default with this codecs.
