Hello, i'm agree like Helen and TJ about putting the config in ~/.openshot. It's the normal way and the user know the existance of the folder .<application> and the possibility to have his own file configuration here. And if it's preconise by the free desktop...
About using a formal XML Schema for all OpenShot config and project definitions, why not. Helen seems to have a good experience and the possibilties to have an inter-action with the others projects is a real good idéa. And it's the free standard.
