Just a quick update from my side: I just installed version 1.0.0 of Openshot (and also upgraded Ubuntu to 9.10) and I don´t get the warning message anymore. Thanks!

It seems that the standard location for saving a project or video can´t be found (/home/user/Desktop is actually /home/user/Bureaublad on a Dutch installation of Ubuntu).
