If you want to use the last version (i.e. 1.2.2) see this thread on our forum
(http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=692). I give a link that
you could use for having the 1.2.2. And it is without danger and in 8-10 days
(exactly the 5-6 February) Squeeze will be out. :)
LMDE is really great, amazing and awesome.

Title:
Clips in Timeline Unusable in Linux Mint Debian Ed.

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  New

Bug description:
  Linux Mint Debian Edition
  Installed Openshot using Package Manager
  OpenShot 1.1.3

I am unable to work with clips in the time-line. When I place the clip
on the time line sometimes they are not visible and I can't place them
on the tracks I want. They appear all in the same track when I add a
new track. Also had problems clicking the visibility of the track or
  to mute the track.

I am going to try to link a sample video I took that shows the
  problem. :

I also found this forum discussion which seems to be the same problem.

I've only experienced these problems in Linux Mint Debian Edition.
Also, I tried to update to Openshot 1.2.2 to see if it still was
happening but could not figure out how to do that.
