Benjamin,
The LaunchPad PPA system had no issues building it (build log linked above).
Same with the Debian build server. I'm not sure why it would have trouble with
finding the distutils.core module when you try and build the package. I think
distutils is built into Python. On my system, it loads distutils.core from
/usr/lib/python2.6/distutils/core.py.

Also, I do not understand your question about dropping the Ubuntu
change? Can you explain?

Thanks!
-Jonathan

Title:
Sync openshot 1.3.0-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Status in “openshot” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: openshot

Please sync openshot 1.3.0-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

There is a new upstream release of OpenShot (version 1.3.0), and it
needs to be synced to Ubuntu 11.04 (natty).

We do not have a CHANGES file, but here is the a link to our LaunchPad
milestones, which document all the "changes":
  https://launchpad.net/openshot/1.3/1.3.0

The details of our PPA build for Natty, including the buildlog can be found
here:
  https://launchpad.net/~jonoomph/+archive/openshot-edge/+buildjob/2260837

Debian Changelog entries since current version 1.2.2-1:

  openshot (1.3.0-1) unstable; urgency=low

     * New upstream release
