2. You're correct in some ways. It really depends on the grid. I'd say, most of the time the answer to 1 is no. If you've got a completely walled garden (closed grid with properly configured OpenSimulator), there isn't any way that I know that people can steal the scripts, but those tend to be few and far between. You'd also have to trust the grid operators and region operators.
As a general rule, the answer to question 1 is no. However, if you trust a grid operator who runs and maintains all of the regions on the grid, then the answer to question 1, /may/ be yes. If the grid operator allows regions to connect that are outside of their control, then the answer to question 1 is definately no.
