rather than expand MAX_RETRANSMITS, have you extended the net.slp.timeout values for both multicast and unicast? have you consisdered using DAs with scopes? we have a system that has thousands of devices and don't have any problems. cheers Matt

But our experiment shows it's hard for slptool to discover all these devices. After looking into the source code, it seems openslp (actually libslp) hardcoded the max transmitting time to 5 (MAX_RETRANSMITS in libslp.h). And that probably is not enough in our environment.
