I drove out from Santa Cruz to attend the 6a hackathon yesterday. I attended, and I must say, I found it to be far from what I expected. First of all, I showed up an hour late, which i didn't think would be much of a hinderance, considering that it was purported to be a 7 hour event. However, when I got there, what I saw was a small room filled with a lot of people sitting quietly listening to a presentation, the first half of which had already passed.
The Power Point Slide - to - Desk And Chair ratio was at an extremely dangerous level. I was expecting a _large_ room full of talking and music and beach balls and energy drinks with bench seating and wide screen monitors spewing inspirational material. Instead, it felt more like a library. The title "Hackathon" may have been a set up for a let down, But it doesn't really matter how you slice it... Free + Pizza + Beer + WiFi = win.
