Well there are 2 questions here really, one of which i can answer and the other one is hard for me to judge :)
Can you become an open social, social network site? Yes! This is what Apache Shindig is for: http://incubator.apache.org/shindig/ It is an open source (production ready) open social server reference implementation. Can you make a social network site that has the unique features of myspace, facebook, orkut and hi5?
