So you would do something like:

  var req = opensocial.newDataRequest();
  var spec = opensocial.newIdSpec({"userId" : "OWNER", "groupId" :
"FRIENDS"});
  var params = {
    "max" : 1000
  };
  req.add(req.newFetchPeopleRequest(spec, params), "req_friends");
