Using the meta data service you can retrieve all the gadget meta data, and construct an iframe that points to shindig again (that renders the gadget for you), so you have all the tools that are required to make an open social server right there :) The only thing you'd have to build is a social data connector, either in PHP if you want to use the PHP version of Shindig, or in Java if you want to use the Java version. Those are simple enough to code up using the examples provided that even if your not very familiar in either language it's still relatively easy to do.
