I'm new to opensocial too and I'm need clarification about this.

If I understand what you mean by "that's currently not possible to
write a html page in which you access orkut's social information", I'm
now very confused about what the RESTful API can provided. Suppose I
want to access an orkut's (or an other opensocial platform) profile
from my external website. What am I supposed to do? I though the
RESTful API was the answer, was it?
