Hi, check out the project socialsite (https://socialsite.dev.java.net/). They have built a social network site - system which you can plug into your own system. They also use shindig. The sourcecode may give you any hints how to use shindig.
I think you have to put your own gadgets into the shindig folder, that they can pe processed. Then you reverence them from your html. Do you want the gadgets to populate your own app data? So you have to implement some Services like PeopleService, ... That's how I think it works. But I am also new to Shindig.
