There are really 2 ways to get OpenSocial gadgets on your website.

The first is by using FriendConnect: google.com/friendconnect
With FriendConnect you don't have to code anything (just cut and past some
html), nor do you have to do any work to implement a social graph etc, and
you get the benefit that the activities of your users will also get posted
on the supported social sites which means their friends will learn about
your site.

The second way is to become an OpenSocial container, then you would use
shindig, http://incubator.apache.org/shindig and implement everything your
self. The benifit is that you could use your own local social graph &
authentication, but it does involve a lot more work :)

For an example on how to use the php version of shindig, check out Partuza:
http://code.google.com/p/partuza it's an example SNS that demonstrates how
to do all the nitty-gritty details of implementing OpenSocial support.

Hope that helps!
