Hi, Besides the obvious advantages of getting traffic and monetizing an app, I think Orkut developers can be motivated in other ways like:
1st cent: Providing grants like 'Google Gadget Ventures' (http://www.google.com/ gadgetventures/) and 'fbFund' (http://www.facebook.com/press/ releases.php?p=4821). This might help developers who don't have a business backing them and want to spend more time coding and less time working 'real life' jobs:)) 2nd cent: Developers care about recognition sometimes more than money (I know there are weirdos like that out there) - Orkut should consider giving out awards for innovation in app development.
