I've tried copying your yearmates.xml to my public domain and installing the app and I do see the same 'Malformed XML..' error. I also tried stripping the file by removing all the script content from the CDATA, all the ModulePrefs data (except for the title) etc. but still get the same error. I suspect that there might be something wrong with the format in which the file was saved, maybe a stray character etc. I'm still investigating on my side and will keep you informed about my findings.
