You will have to run a web-based application which retrieves/updates
the data from your database and exposes it through some interface
that's accessible using a public url (as a web service or REST
endpoints etc.). From within your orkut app, you can make calls using
this url to update the data. To simply fetch the data from this public
url, you can also use gadgets.io.makeRequest as shown in the article:
