The ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) began its first event of 2008 at Harbin Engineering University in China. About 110 teams (500 students) from 73 universities, and five countries (China, Russia, Japan, Singapore, Korean) participated.
As technical sponsor, Sun provides on site technical support and OpenSolaris, NetBeans, and SunStudio as the contest platform. Also, the ACM/ICPC China website runs on OpenSolaris with GlassFish, Apache, and MySQL. In 2008, ACM/ICPC will attract 3000 teams from 400 universities to compete online in China. There will also be five on-site contests in China, part of the 33rd ACM/ICPC Asia Regional Contests.
