Hi,
The next FROSUG (Front Range OpenSolaris User Group) meeting is on
Tuesday, November 28, 2006. Our presenters are Susan Kamm-Worrell and
Tony Nguyen. They will be talking about the Solaris Service Management
Facility (SMF).
In addition to the SMF presentation, Jon Bowman will be giving the
"OpenSolaris Update" - a short presentation about the latest happenings
in OpenSolaris. This is similar the presentation given at the beginning
of last month's meeting and is used to help people stay up to date on
what is happening in the OpenSolaris community.
About the presentation - "Solaris Service Management Facility (SMF):
Service Management Simplified":
SMF is a new feature of the Solaris Operating System that creates a
supported, unified model for services and service management on each
Solaris system. It is a core part of the Predictive Self-Healing
technology available in Solaris 10, which provides automatic recovery
from software and hardware failures as well as administrative errors.
This presentation will discuss, in detail, the motivation for SMF and
how to manage your new Solaris environment with SMF.
About our presenters:
Susan Kamm-Worrell holds an M.S. in Computer Science from the
University of Illinois and has been in the UNIX industry for 18 years.
Susan has been with Sun since 1999 and has recently joined the SMF
development team.
Tony Nguyen holds a B.S in Computer Science from University of Colorado
at Denver and is working on M.S in Computational Biology. Tony recently
joined the SMF development team and prior to that was a part of the
Solaris Volume Manager team for two years.
Additional Information:
In addition to our speakers, the entire SMF development team will be in
Broomfield and many will be attending the FROSUG meeting! So, bring all
the SMF questions that you may have and get them answered by the experts.
