I'm sponsoring this case for Cindy Eastham.
This case updates case PSARC/2007/459 (CIFS system attributes
support for cpio(1), pax(1), tar(1)) as amended by PSARC/2007/546 (Update
utilities to match CIFS system attributes changes.)
This case seeks a minor release binding.
Since no changes to the cpio, pax, and tar utilities for the above
cases have yet integrated into any Solaris release; there is no change
to the way the cpio, pax, and tar utilities will operate; and there is
no dependency on these cases by the CIFS project; I'm filing this case
as Closed Approved Automatic. If anyone disagrees, let me know and
I'll promote it to a fasttrack with a one week timer.
Sincerely,
Don

4. Technical Description
The project team had expected to integrate the cpio, pax, and tar
utilities at the same time as the CIFS project team integrates CIFS
into ON gate. Due to the changes in personnel induced by the last RIF
and by additional work being piled onto the project team's plate, the
project team no longer believes it will be able to perform adequate
testing to deliver all three of these utilities when the CIFS project
integrates. This case, therefore, splits cpio and pax out of PSARC
case 2007/459 (leaving only tar in 2007/459). The cpio and pax
utilities will be integrated under the auspices of this case. The way
the cpio and pax utilities will behave remains as specified in PSARC
2007/459 as amended by PSARC 2007/546. Updated cpio and pax man pages
remain in the PSARC/2007/459/materials directory and are not changed by
this case.
The project team expects to be ready to integrate cpio and pax before
the end of the year, but wants to go ahead and integrate tar with the
CIFS project integration so Solaris systems won't be stuck with no
archiver capable of archiving and restoring extended system attributes
when the CIFS project integrates.
