The approved this fasttrack today with the following two caveat's. 1) This does not set a precedent for allow 32 bit libraries into the system. It appears in this particular case that a series of oversights lead to the current situation. We decided not to put the burden on this current project to fix all of those things. Clearly if there is customer demand for 64 bit the project team will have to address that.
2) We would like to see the .a libraries become .so. We are not stopping this project to fix that now but strongly encourage a future project to get this addressed. We would hope to see it addressed by the next time this project comes back to the ARC for an update. -edh (Temporary chair)
